Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size HVAC system should I get for my home?

A good reference point is 400-500 sq ft per ton of A/C equipment, however we recommend an in-person assessment to properly determine the needs of your home.

  • should I perform preventive maintenance?

To increase the longevity of your system and to insure that is operating properly and safely.

  • What maintenance can I, as a homeowner, do to my HVAC system?

Most importantly, routinely change your filters.

It is important to keep your outdoor unit clear of debris and landscaping. Also keep pets away to prevent urine that can lead to unnecessary damage on your equipment. And use caution when weed eating near electrical wiring.

Finally, remember to regularly change the batteries in your thermostat.

All other maintenance should be performed by a professional.

  • Are all air filters the same? How often should I replace them?

No, not all air filters are the same. One inch filters are designed to be changed every month for optimal performance, while four inch filters are designed to be changed every six months. Although properties vary and this will depend on your home.

  • How does pricing work?

    Residential:

Our service call covers the first thirty minutes of diagnostics and labor for $100.

Any labor beyond the initial thirty minutes is billed at $120/hr.

Replacement parts or refrigerant cost will be advised upon discovery.

    Commercial:

Our service call covers the first thirty minutes of diagnostics and labor for $130 + tax.

Any labor beyond the initial thirty minutes is billed at $160/hr + tax.

  • What's the difference between R-22 and R-410a?

R-22 is currently being phased out by the EPA because it includes chlorine, however it is still perfectly lawful to use R-22 equipment. R-410a does not contain chlorine and is considered to be ozone friendly. All new HVAC equipment must run on R-410a or a newer refrigerant.

  • Why is my A/C freezing up?

There are many reasons why an A/C unit would freeze up, but most commonly this is due to lack of airflow across the coil. We often encounter dirty filters that create an airflow restriction that causes the coil to freeze up.

  • How is the efficcency of heating and cooling equipment measured?

The SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is the amount of cooling your system will deliver per dollar spent on electricity. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the system will be.
